Start with a walking tour of downtown where you'll discover dozens of historic buildings. Country music lovers will be drawn the Cradle of Country Music Walking Tour, which is also downtown, and boasts a wealth of markers centered on such legends as Hank Williams, the Everly Brothers, Dolly Parton, and, of course, Elvis. Another way to go is to take the Civil War Driving Tour. Highlights include Fort Dickerson, General Longstreet's headquarters, and the spot where the Battle of Fort Sanders took place. Outdoor enthusiasts will be very enthusiastic about Knoxville as the city delivers tons of recreational opportunities. At the Outdoor Knoxville Adventure Center, you'll be able to rent a boat or bike. Or check out the Ijams Nature Center. Situated along the Tennessee River, this 300-acre nature preserve features trails for hiking and a boardwalk for wildlife viewing. Speaking of wildlife, the Knoxville Zoo is home to over 800 animals from around the globe, including elephants, chimpanzees, camels, and baby red pandas.
